Some 430 years after God established a covenant with Abraham, He set a law in place, and the law came through Moses. (Gal. 3:17; John 1:17). And what was the purpose of the law? It was added because of transgressions. (Gal. 3:19).

Isn’t that why most laws are enacted, to curb bad behavior so that consequences might be administered if those laws are not obeyed? And isn’t the general purpose of a law aimed and keeping order in a society and protecting people? It was no different with God’s law.

If I sound like I’m circling back and repeating myself here, it is for good reason. I don’t know how else to say this without sounding arrogant, but I am telling you in Jesus’ Name... many of us have failed to grasp the relevance of God’s law today, and many are suffering because of it. (Hosea 4:6). There is a lot I still don’t know, but I have never been more certain of anything in my life when I tell you that this is no ‘small thing’ that we have overlooked in our basic Bible foundational teachings. The law has been ‘lost’ just as it was in previous generations. You might read 2 Kings 22-23 sometime and see how the ‘light came on’ for Josiah.

You would be hard pressed to show any NT scriptures that would indicate that God’s laws were repealed. Why is that? Because God’s law was not a bad idea, or something He threw together last minute until He could come up with a better idea down the road when He would send Jesus to deliver us.

When Jesus did finally arrive, one of the first things He made clear was He did not come to abolish, remove, or repeal God’s law. On the contrary, He came to fulfill it. (Matt. 5:17). And we would later be told in John’s writings that “whoever says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.” (1 John 2:6).

Remember the verse I shared the other day about how we are ‘not under the law, but under grace?’ (Rom. 6:14). And who are the ones that are longer ‘under the law’, according to Gal. 5:18? Those who are ‘led by His Spirit’.

So look what Paul writes to Timothy in his first letter to him, stating that the law is ‘good’...knowing the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and ungodly and rebellious and sinners and unholy and the profane...etc....” (1 Tim. 1:8-11). What is he saying here? We know the law brings ‘wrath’ (Rom. 4:15) and a ‘curse’ (Gal. 3:10) and ‘death and condemnation’. (2 Cor. 3:7,9)

Oh, but you say ‘Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law’ and there is now therefore...’no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus...who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit’?(Rom. 8:1)  Yep. But let's be clear...those who are ‘In Christ’ are following His leading and no longer fulfilling the lusts and desires of the flesh. (Rom. 8:1; Gal. 5:16; Rom. 8:13-14). If you are not following...then you are subject to the same ‘wrath’ that anyone else there is subject to when they break laws. And that is Bible truth.(Eph. 5:5-6)
