Why would you...or any sincere believing follower of Christ, NOT...want to be completely set free from sin?

Unless, that is of course....you love that sin and are not ready to give it up?

Exactly what ‘besetting sin’ do you seem to have a hard time overcoming and unable to ‘lay aside’ or turn from, as in 'repent of'? (Heb. 12:1)

I mean, really...did Jesus not come and empower us with His grace to ‘take up our bed and walk...and go and sin no more’? (John 5:11,14) Or was that just poetic language?

I can almost hear you sputtering (as your BP rises)...”Yeah...well....but...nobody can live a sinless life...we are human and will always be sinners and make ‘mistakes’...or 'errors'. (diluted words for ‘sin’).

Really? Who told you that? (I recall God asking Adam a similar question back in Gen. 3:11).

Who told you that you could never walk like Jesus walked...and love others as Jesus loved you? (1 John 2:6; Rom. 8:29; John 13:34-35)

The second chapter of 2 Thessalonians is subtitled ‘The Great Apostasy’- or as we read, the ‘falling away’ (from the faith-vs.3). This seems to be the direction that many ‘believers’ and those associated with the ‘church’ will take in ‘the last days’ as deceiving spirits and ‘other gospels’ begin to sweep in and lead people astray to destruction. (1 Tim. 4:1; 2 Tim. 4:3-4; 2 Cor. 11:2-4; Matt. 24:3-5)

This could very well be what John was referring to in Rev. 12:15 where the serpent would rise up and ‘spew water from his mouth to carry the woman away in the flood’. (God's word can sure be 'diluted with water', as we see so often-Gen. 3:1-3) Jesus also warned of that day talking of ‘floods’ that would carry people away to destruction’. (Matt. 24:38-39; Luke 17:27) even implying they would not even be aware of what was happening.  (Prov. 18:4; 2 Pet. 2:18)

Deceived people don’t know they are deceived, correct?

“The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish....Because... they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved”. (2 Thess. 2:9-10)

What was the reason Jesus said people would perish in Luke 13:3,5)? And exactly what is it that we are to ‘repent’ of or from?

And why does Paul suggest here (2 Thess. 2) they are perishing? -  “Because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved’.

And what is it that they/we are ‘saved from’? – The ‘wrath of God’. (Rom. 5:9)

Why is there ‘wrath’? Because the law which God set in place 430 years after His covenant with Abraham brings wrath against all those who transgress His law. (Rom. 4:15; Gal. 3:17,19)

We should make note here that the law was never done away with. (Matt. 5:17)

The law still stands today and is ‘good and holy’. And the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and ungodly; for sinners. (Rom. 7:12; 1 Tim. 1:8-11)

But those who are ‘led by the Spirit’ are not under or subject to this law. (Gal. 5:18)

Which means if you are not being led by God’s Spirit, you are still under/subject to the law. God’s wrath is already on everyone who is not a child/believer. (John 3:36). God’s wrath is currently being revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men...”(Rom. 1:18)

Children of God, however, are ‘led by His Spirit’. (Rom. 8:14)

If you are being led by His Spirit, you are putting to death (for good) the deeds of the sinful flesh nature. (Rom. 8:13; Gal. 5:24). And you are not fulfilling or yielding to the lusts of the flesh nature. (Gal. 5:16)

All of these ‘evident deeds of the flesh’ as listed by Paul in Gal. 5:19-21 are what defile us and make us hostile towards God. (Mark 7:21-23; Rom. 8:6-9).

Those who continue to live/practice these things will NOT inherit the kingdom of heaven. (Gal. 5:21; 1 Cor. 6:9). Those who ‘practice these things are deserving of death’. (Rom. 1:28-32; Rom. 6:23; 8:13).  Those who belong to Christ have put to death (crucified) all the passions and desires of the flesh. (Gal. 5:24)  His words, not mine.

When people admit, and openly confess they continue to sin, many on a ‘daily’ basis and are even told by preachers they will always continue to ‘blow it’ and ‘sin’ because they are, or remain, ‘sinners’, they are therefore, guilty of committing ‘lawlessness’.

That it what sin is...’lawlessness’. (1 John 3:4)

In Matt. 7:23, what did Jesus tell those [ the many who will come to Him in that day reminding Him of all the ‘wonderful things they did in His name]...was the reason they were being turned away?

He first tells them: “I never knew you”.  Who are the ones that He knows? (John 10:27)

Then He tells them to ‘depart from Me”.

And here is the reason why: - He addresses them as: “You who practice lawlessness”.

So once more, you know what ‘lawlessness’ is? It is ‘sin’. “Sin is lawlessness” or ‘breaking the commandments of God’. (1 John 3:4)

Whoever abides in Him does not sin.” (1 John 3:6). Whoever sins, is a ‘slave to sin’. (John 8:34)  "And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son does"  His words, not mine.

“Whoever is born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.” (1 John 3:9)

“He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning.” (1 John 3:8)

Do we continue to believe that all scripture is ‘God-breathed’ (2 Tim. 3:16) and that God’s word is ‘truth’? (John 17:17)

So back to our passage in 2 Thess. 2...why are people perishing? Because they did not receive the ‘love of the truth that they might be saved’.

Look what Paul writes here in vs. 11: “For This reason [which is -they did not receive the love for the truth that they might be saved] - God...will send them...strong delusion......that they should believe the LIE and that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness’ (12)

We read recently there in Luke 4:18 where Jesus came to ‘proclaim liberty to the captives’. It was not a jailbreak or a wrestling match to get you out of a headlock; it was a proclamation. In other words, the prison door is open...come on out. You are free to go...”come and follow Me”, Jesus tells us.

Remember when Peter was in prison and in chains (Acts 12:5-11)? An angel of the Lord shows up, releasing him from the chains, tells him to put his shoes on and follow him out of the prison.

Can you think of any reason as to why Peter would have stayed there when the open door and way out was clearly evident? Why would anyone remain in a prison cell if told they were free to go?

Maybe they ‘love that prison cell of darkness more’? We read there in Peter’s account that a ‘light shone in the prison’. (7). What was the main reason Jesus said people would ‘not come to the light’ there in John 3:19-20?

Sounds like they don’t have a ‘love for the truth’ and are unwilling to receive...or come to the ‘Truth’. And what did Jesus say about His people and their ‘unwillingness’ there in John 5:39-40 and Matt. 23:37?

The next time a preacher ask your congregation to hold up their beloved bibles for all to see how you love ‘God’s Holy Word’, you better be sure you know what is in that book. Not having a genuine love for His truth could have devastating consequences.

Oh, and one last thing for today. I would strongly encourage you to not move on quickly from this post today. I would advise you read it one or two more times, carefully and prayerfully. I only say that because if you do not ‘see’ what God is trying to awaken us to in this hour, you may get little else from here on out.
