Why it matters…

Paul wrote in his letter to the Galatians: “You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.” (4:1)

It is important to note here, for clarification, that not all who read that statement are ‘sons/children of God’ as he made it quite clear in Romans 8:14 that ‘those who are led by the spirit of God, these are the sons/children of God.’

There really is more to this ‘faith thing’ than just saying ‘Lord, Lord’, or “I believe”. (Matt 7:21) Paul goes on in that passage in Galatians “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (vs. 28) Again, we are not all the children of God, rather those who are following Him are. John would write later how you can tell the difference as to who the children of God are and the children of the devil are. (1 John 3:10) Have I ever mentioned before how beneficial it would be to go look up these verses that I give you here? ;-)

And it’s the next statement in Paul’s passage here that should resonate: “And IF…..you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. (vs. 29)

Might pause here a moment and let that last line sink in.

“IF” ….you belong to Christ…, which would indicate not all, belong to Him, yes? You might flip your pages over to chapter 5 in that same book and look at verse 24. It reads like this: “And those who are (belong to) Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”

Another ‘pause and let sink in’ statement.

So who are the children of God? Those who are led by His spirit. (Rom 8:14)

What does the Spirit lead us to do? - Put to death the deeds of the sinful flesh nature. (Rom 8:13) And if we are ‘walking in the Spirit’ then we won’t “be fulfilling the lust of the flesh nature.” (Gal 5:16)

And if we are being ‘led by the spirit, we are not under the law’. (Gal 5:18)

Might also make note that those who are still subject to the law, remain under a curse. (Gal. 3:10)

Again, why does any of this matter? Because people think that all those ‘curses’ and ‘bad things and such’ don’t exist anymore. You may disagree, but that is part of the great deception today. We’ve been lured to sleep or astray.

When we talk about things not going good for us or our children and further down the line, (post from yesterday and day before), you can go back and read how serious God was about Abraham’s descendants sitting up and taking notice to God’s commandments.

“Moreover all these curses shall come upon you and pursue and overtake you, until you are destroyed, because you did not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you. And they shall be upon you for a sign and a wonder, and on your descendants forever.” (Deut. 28:45-46)

Scoot on down and read verse 58-61. I’m telling you, God was not kidding around.

When Jesus said in Luke 13:1-5, “Unless you repent, you shall all likewise perish”, it was a warning for those who have ears to hear.

When Peter declared: “Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. And it shall be that every soul who will not hear that Prophet (Jesus) shall be utterly destroyed from among the people”, (Acts 3:22-23) it was a warning to those who have ears to hear.

If you are feeling a bit uneasy right now and needing some encouragement, go look at Deuteronomy 30:1-11. Read it carefully. You will see the heart of God here wanting no one to perish but for all to come to Him with ALL their hearts. He wants to bring us out of darkness…release us from captivity and into a ‘good land’ where He can bless us.

Remember this….Jesus did not come to abolish or do away with the law, rather He came to fulfill it. (Matt. 5:17)

Paul tells us that it is ‘’not the hearers of the law who are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified. (Rom 2:13) Later to the Corinthians this: “Circumcision is nothing nor is uncircumcision, , but keeping the commandments of God is what matters.” (1 Cor. 7:19)

If you are a fan of Revelation, go see how the writer describes who the saints or ‘offspring’ look like in 12:17 and 14:12.

Do you know what Jesus came to do? He came to deliver us…to rescue us…and to lead us out of darkness and condemnation and bondage….just like Moses did when he led the Israelites out of Egypt.

Jesus came to lead us to fulfill God’s law which is summed up in loving Him with all our hearts and loving others as ourselves.

That is why all this matters. There’s more to this than finding a false security in church membership somewhere and paying your tithes regularly.

If you are not following…not abiding…not obeying and not bearing fruits of righteousness and holiness, then you are open game to the powers of darkness who carry out the curses and the wrath of God. And the bible clearly states that the ‘wicked will have no idea what is happening to them. (Dan. 12 and 2 Cor. 4:3-4)

 That’s why all this matters.
